Traffic Problems in Karachi

Karachi is the biggest city of Pakistan and also one of the most populated cities in the world. The ever-increasing rush of heavy traffic on the roads often results in loss of human life and precious time of the citizens. Traffic problem is one of the serious problems of this city especially in peak hours like morning and evening due to outdated traffic flow plans, bad condition of roads, and lack of passion and skills in traffic police.

Citizen of Karachi you encounter the worst traffic jam every morning or evening time on famous roads of the city. It is not the problem of any particular area, it is the problem of the whole city. Citizens of the city are stuck every day in traffic when they are going to the offices, schools, universities. People reach back to their homes from their working places after spending several hours in the traffic jams on roads. This is due to outdated traffic plans and lack of construction and development of new roads, underpasses and flyovers.

Secondly, there is no traffic official seen on the roads where they should be to clear the roads. Almost entire traffic police force is roaming and standing in industrial areas where they threaten and forcefully take money from every vehicle carrying any product or raw material. Government does not seem to be interested in this serious issue, which is why it is getting worse day by day. This issue needs proper attention of the concerned authorities to solve it.

On the other hand, the public lacks awareness regarding traffic rules and regulations. The drivers of heavy vehicles are mostly less educated, because of which they don’t follow laws and keep on driving recklessly which often causes lethal accidents. Motorcyclists are also a major source of numerous accidents due to violation of traffic rules, as firstly, they never bother to drive in their own lane and secondly, they keep on changing lanes in order to cross other vehicles and by doing so, they often end up sliding or colliding with cars. The only solution to all these problems is just awareness of traffic laws for the citizens of Karachi and severe punishments plus significant increase in traffic challan rates for violating traffic rules, as the more the masses are made aware of traffic laws and how to drive safely and more fear they have of violating the rules due to unaffordable challans, the better the traffic of Karachi will be.

In addition, the pitiable condition of roads makes travelling a great problem for the citizens, as their vehicles require more and more maintenance and the life expectancy of the vehicles is also decreased, which is a big loss considering the sky rocketing rates of motor vehicles in Pakistan. Broken roads also leads to slowing down the flow of traffic, which results in traffic jams in the city and a major reason of accidents in rainy season.
